Final Evaluation Information

HNC 30 Final Evaluation

Final evaluation Due: ___________

Your final evaluation covers major concepts learned during the course. There are TWO parts that must be completed and together they account for 15% of your final mark. The final exam counts for the other 15%

PART 1 SEWING SKILLS: Completion of a garment

    Using the sewing skills you learned throughout the year you will construct a garment. We will all be sewing sleep pants (PJs),
    You are responsible for purchasing: save the receipt
  • a pattern
  • material - please choose a woven cotton material NO KNITS AND
    NO SLIPPERY FABRIC
  • elastic - half inch size
  • thread
  • You need to have everything at school by ____________________

Please prewash and iron your fabric

If you are not able to purchase supplies You may speak with Mrs Smith and she can provide you with $$ to purchase materials


PART 2 WRITTEN COMPONENT

For this portion of the evaluation you should use your notes to help you answer the questions. Please write in complete sentences and explain your answer fully. One word answers are not sufficient.

a) Choose 2 elements of design and 2 principles of design to define and explain how they contribute to your garment
    b) How does your garment express your personality?
    c) What is the total cost of your garment. Include the cost of the fabric, pattern, thread and elastic. Is your garment cheaper to sew or purchase ready made? What are the advantages and disadvantages of sewing your own garment?

d) What is the fibre content of your garment? How will you care for it? Design an appropriate care label for this garment

Fashion Dec 1 - 5

WOW - IT IS DECEMBER.....

Last week was a blur with the Junk to Funk Sale - it was a huge success!  We made almost $200 and lots of people got some great deals.

This week is busy too - Your portfolio is due Monday - you should have all your pages finished.  Follow the assignment sheet stapled inside the role folder.

Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday  : You will be deciding on your own "line" of clothing and designing it - putting into practice the elements and principles of design that you learned over the past couple of weeks

Thursday - Friday - we start learning about textiles  ...natural  and synthetic fibres,  (cotton, linen, polyester, etc)  ....and clothing care.

We also need to start thinking about your final evaluation....I will have the info sheet so you can organize a shopping trip to purchase fabric.

Fashion test info

Please note that the info for your test is also written on the front board in the classroom.

There are 15 multiple choice questions and the remainder are short answer questions (written on foolscap in complete sentences).  The test is out of 34 marks.

You will need to review the decades of fashion we looked at and remember the questions in the Kahoot review yesterday.

HINT:   Sumptuary laws were passed by Royalty....telling people what to wear.  Only royalty were allowed to wear the colour purple.

Fashion Nov 17 - Nov 21

Hold on for a busy week.....

Monday - Artist Ruth Anne Merner joins us for our jewelry making workshop.  Remember your blow-dryer

Tuesday - A quick 10 minute test review on Kahoot followed by the remainder of the jewelry workshop.

Wednesday - you need to finish your 1 page summary of your decade (use APA style of referencing) and then continue with your colour schemes in your portfolio project.

Thursday - test.....first 30 - 35 minutes.  Then you will go( as soon as you are done) with Miss Carter to do an interest inventory.  When you finish with her come back to 109 to continue working on your portfolio

Friday - portfolio project....by the end of today - you should be finished colour, line and texture.

Fashion Nov 10 - 14

Hold on...it is a busy week!

Monday - work period to finish up decades presentation.  I visit my friend Marion and have borrowed some antique clothes for you to try on.  I also am bringing quite a few clothes from my own collection.  We will need a couple guys to model 2 suits I have.

Tuesday - Remembrance Day - First 1/2 of the period I have arranged for my parents to come in to talk to you.  My Mom was a child in Holland during the Second World War, and she will talk about her experiences.  She will also give you the inside scoop in the dresses from the 50s you tried on last Thursday. Second 1/2 of the class....finish presentations and start to share with class.  Mr Yates' class will join us for the first 1/2 of the class.

Wednesday - Decades Presentations.....we have to get everyone finished as we have a busy Thursday and Friday.

Thursday - Elements and Principles of Design - an intro to what elements and principles are and we will focus on colour today.

Friday - Colour collage.....Junk to Funk project.  We need to finish up a collage project so I can scan it and send it to an artist who will come in Monday and Tuesday to create jewelry with you

Looking ahead to next week.....Monday and Tuesday.....art/jewelry workshop.  BRING A BLOWDRYER please

Fashion Nov 3 - 7

Time is flying - it is November already!  Here is a look at the upcoming week...

Monday - history of fashion - overview in a slide show, look at assignment in detail - start to work on your chosen time period

Tuesday - As a group we will evaluate the first displays for the Junk 2Funk sale.  We will use the criteria you created for a rubric.  The remainder of the period is a work class for the history project

Wednesday - Tira Wooton  from  Exeter's LUVU beauty store visits

Thursday - work period for history decade and create new displays for Junk 2 Funk

Friday - PD DAY
