Fitness March 31 - April 4

This week we are back doing fitness tests.

Monday we are retesting flexibility , wall sit, grip strength, and curl ups.

Wednesday we will do the beep test

The remaining days we will complete the other tests.  I need to co-ordinate with the other phased teachers and book the small gym for the agility tests.

Gerontology March 31 - April 4

Unfortunately Staci had to email me back and let me know that Tuesday Huronview will still be closed to visitors due to the respiratory outbreak.  I have asked that maybe we could go on Friday....we will see.

Monday - we will continue with our nutrition unit, with a video about what not to eat

Tuesday - today we are switching rooms with Ms Williams and continuing with nutrition

Wednesday - hoping to bake today and prepare some nutritious recipes

Thursday - we will be finishing up the nutrition unit and switching to the heart

Friday- Miss Carter will be in to do CPR training with you for the period, unless we go out to Huronview

Fitness March 24 - 28

This week we will again be focusing on Cardio...be sure to review the diagram of the heart and all the cardio information you have for Friday's quiz.

This week we will do Tabata workouts to maximize your cardio workouts and you should be focusing on your own fitness plan as fitness retests are next week :)

Gerontology March 24 - 28

Unfortunately I received a message from Huronview...they have a respiratory outbreak and we are not able to visit this week as the home is closed to visitors.

We will continue with our new unit on nutrition.....the 6 main nutrients are: Protein, Carbohydrates, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals and Water.  Again this Friday we will take some time to learn games that our seniors would enjoy (euchre, crokinold, Checkers, etc)

We wil finish the nutrition unit next week and it will be followed by a test.  We will also look at the heart next week and Miss Carter will be teaching you CPR during next Friday's class

Fitness March 17 - 21

Hope your March Break was relaxing and you are back ready to workout!

Monday - Mrs Godkin and Miss Hohner's bootcamp workout, abs
Tuesday - cardio/heart rate lab
Wednesday - heart rate continued....a look at the heart, step aerobics
Thursday - a change to workout on your own
Friday...SKATING!  Bring extra skates and helmets for those who may not have any please

Monday - review our elderly simulation...macular degeneration, cataracts, arthritis, etc, discuss careers in gerontology
Tuesday - visit Huronview
Wednesday - discuss yesterday's visits, write a reflection and finish career project
Thursday - Services for seniors
Friday - services continued, games

Gerontology March 3 - 7

I have missed you!  and after a rough week I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

Thursday - I hope to do a simulation activity with you- a few minutes in the life of an elderly person

Friday - March Break begins!

After the break we will be heading to Huronview every Tuesday

Fitness March 3 - 7

I have missed you!  I hope everything went well last week.  Be ready to work on Monday.  We did miss the Y on Friday, I will reschedule that for you.  Please ensure that you bring me your $20 fee for the Y , ASAP.

Monday - is March!  so we will be running the stairs 3 times :), there are still 2 of you to write last week's test
Tuesday - I hope to take you to the Y, I have called and left a message
Wednesday - regular fitness class, be ready to work out with me and on your own
Thursday - we are scheduled for the Y again
Friday - the beginning of March Break!

Remember to be active over the break.  There is still lots of snow, you can ski, snowshoe, skate, snowmobile.....get out and play in the snow.  IT doesn't seem to be going away, we might as well enjoy it
