Ladies and Gentlemen.....

It is imperative that you hand in ALL assignments.  Even after a stern talk from me on Tuesday I have only received 1/2 of your assignments.  You had well over 4 hours of in class time to complete this small assignment.  You need to finish it and hand it in as not doing so really affects your mark in a negative manner

Real Care Baby

Hi Parenting students - I am not sure who texted my home phone - my husband answered and didn't write your number down.  It the strap on your wrist is hampering the chime for your baby then try cutting the strap and just use the chime button.  Be very careful not to loose it!

It could be that you are just a little impatient waiting for it to chime.  Hold the chimer close to the baby and give it a few seconds.  Also....if you have let the head drop the baby will scream for 2 minutes continuously and it will not chime

Hope this helps

NEW COMPUTER FINALLY

IT has been long week without a computer after the crash on Sunday evening...watch this space for course updates

Personal Fitness October 15 - 18

I hope that you found some time to be active this long holiday weekend and you were able to be outside.  The cool mornings are perfect for running!

This week we continue to workout according to our fitness plans.  There are 4 of you who still need to hand in your fitness books to be marked as you were at volleyball when I collected them.  There are also a few of you who need to complete some assignments in your books and hand them in - at the moment those are marked "incomplete"

This is a reminder of the quiz on Friday - last Thursday you received a review sheet...USE IT AS IT WILL BE VERY HELPFUL FOR THE TEST.....HINT HINT

Your test has diagrams of both the heart and the muscular system to label.  It is imperative that you study those diagrams.

Parenting October 15 - 18

I hope you had a fabulous long weekend with family and you were able to be outside in the wonderful weather!

I was disappointed to find that only 9 out of 25 people handed in their parenting interview assignment.  You choose the due date and had 1.5 weeks to complete the assignment.  If you are one of the 16 people that did not hand it in you must do so Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.

The rest of the week will be spent finishing up loose ends in preparation for Friday's test.  We need to take up the birth defects assignment you worked on last Thursday and we need to finish up the note on healthy nutrition and lifestyle in pregnancy

Welcome Back for a New School Year!

Welcome back everyone.  I hope you had a fabulous summer and you are energized and ready to go.  This is the spot where you will find information relating to my classes...PAF 30 (Personal fitness) and HPC 30 (Raising Healthy Children).  In Social Science/Family Studies we are implementing new curriculum this fall so you will notice that HPC has a new name...the former parenting Course is now called raising healthy children.  Much of the content is the same and the focus is still preparation for parenting, conception and prenatal development and birth to age six.

Remember that I am a part0time teacher and I will be teaching two classes and at CHSS  1/2 days. In week A I am here in the afternoon and then in week B I am at CHSS in the morning.  I also coach the cross country team with Miss Carter and would love to have you come out to practices and join the team.

Nutrition Final Evaluation Project

Food and Nutrition
Final Assessment
Recipe Book Assignment

This assignment has been designed in order to develop and utilize your organizational skills, and produce a project which you will use for many years to come. You need to use a scrap book, a folder, a recipe box, a binder or duo tang.

You will be collecting and categorizing recipes in your own personal recipe book.

Considerable thought should be given to the planning and layout of your book or box. You will need sections and you may wish to use some type of dividers:

The following are some suggestions:
-Main dishes
-Veggies and salads
-muffins and loaf
-cookies, desserts and squares
-beverages

Recipes should be categorized and you can add “helpful hints and anecdotal comments” If you have created some of these recipes you could certainly add pictures of the final product. A professional look is required so you do want to place recipes on a background and perhaps colour code the different sections.

You need a book cover, a title page, and a table of contents. You should also use a variety of sources (magazines, internet, family cook books, recipes used in class) and the sources must be declared in the references page at the end of your book.

It is really important that these recipes are PRACTICAL and not crazy complicated gourmet recipes you would never use. These would be the “recipes to save your life” as Jamie Oliver would say.

Recipe books are due Friday June 14th. You will have class time to work on it but you are expected to work on it on your own time as well. The assignment value is 15% of your final mark

YOU NEED SKATES AND A HELMET.

If you have extra skates or a helmet at home please bring them for someone who might not have any.  IF you would prefer to walk or run on the indoor track or use the exercise bikes that would be fine too
