PAF 20

This last week before Christmas we will be working extra hard to ensure that we are burning off our holiday eating in advance :)

You should have your new fitness goals for the new year and your plan complete.  You need to include a circuit and exercises that you can do at home over the holidays.

SINCE THIS IS A FINAL EVALUATION THERE IS NO WIGGLE ROOM WITHT HE DEADLINE ...... IT MUST BE HANDED IN DEC 19th

Topics yet to cover this unit - Teen Pregnancy, Child Poverty and Death of a child

Hopefully Mrs Melo will be in to visit us in this last week before Christmas and share her parenting experiences.

Remember we agreed to have the Unit test the first Thursday or Friday back in the New Year.

HHS 4M

This week we will continue with the new unit Parents and Children

We look at fertility trends, the decision to parent and why couples choose not to have children.

We also will look at styles of parenting and how each are different

Be sure to hand your data analysis in for your independent study as your final essay is due Dec 19 and as it is a final evaluation it must be handed in on that day.

PAF 20 Dec 3 - 7

Yes it is December!  That means we are doing the stairs again - this month it is 5 times !!

Monday we will do the stairs and then finish up nutrition presentations - I have some quinoa salad as well as beet and lentil salad for you to try. I will also give you time to work on your log books

Tuesday we will workout and then start to set new goals and come up with a new exercise routine

Wednesday will be one of our last nutrition days and the rest of the week we will work on our fitness plans and an exercise circuit

PAF 20 Nov 19 - 23

Last week I neglected to click "publish" and as a result there was nothing on the blog.  Here is a recap: - regular fitness workouts - the killer "leg" workout in the hallway with lots of squats, the superfoods project on Wednesday for nutrition, and the Y visit on Friday.

Here is a look at this week - we will begin fitness testing again - look forward to the beep test :) and the weather is so nice we can do one more 12 minute run outside.  Wednesday we will be again working on your superfood project and presentation on the ipads and beginning to do presentations partway through the class.  You have the assignment sheet with all the requirements and remember my presentation on Quinoa....that is exactly what you have to do.

Friday is a trip to the Y again...remember you second pair of shoes

HHS Nov 19 - 23

I must apologize for last week - I did not press "publish" and therefore nothing was posted.  Here is a quick look back at last week and ahead to this week:

Last week - we discussed polygamy, "roots", the impact of culture, watched the movie My big fat Greek Wedding and then moved on to conflict and divorce

This week:

Monday - finish up divorce
Tuesday - Relationship violence
Wednesday - Free Choice vs Arranged Marriage and cohabitation
Thursday - either finish up these topics if we get bogged down one day or begin the next unit - Parenthood
Friday - Would like to have the Unit test - remember we talked about that last Monday

We could always have the test on Thursday if that is a better day, however I would like to stay away from Thursday as that is a Lambton day

PAF 20 Nov 5 - 9

Monday - Today you need to be sure to have your fitness plan completed...it should have been finished by Wednesday of last week.  It is essential to know what you will do during your workout time. There will be a group abs workout after your personal workout

Tuesday - Be sure to warm up completely, you will have a chance to workout and we will do a group workout focusing on legs and hips then a cool down

Wednesday - nutrition Day - I have a video on 12 nutrition habits to break plus you will have time to study for your test on Friday....details below

Thursday - a workout day...we will focus on cardio

Friday - test then a workout

Monday - BEEP TEST! - finish up other fitness tests that you have missed and complete the self evaluation in your book
Tuesday - 50m dash, finish up fitness tests you missed, 1km row
Wednesday - Nutrition Day.....note there will be a test on nutrition next week
Thursday - Complete Fitness retest sheet in your books, create a new fitness plan and start your new workout
Friday - PD Day - Remember to be Active today :)

Here are the details:

Knowledge and Understanding....12 marks...all multiple choice
Application....8 marks.....a case study - choose a developmental theory to explain and then discuss the
          case using that theory
Thinking.....10 marks.....Respond to one of two possible quotes (6 marks), short answer question (4
          marks)
Communication......10 marks.......Longer written question (6 marks), vocabulary - choose 4 for 4 marks

Total - 40 marks

Remember this unit is on:
-a portrait of life as a young person in Canada (from the graphs in Chapter 3)
-moving off to school
-developmental theories (there are 7)
-homelessness and poverty
-youth suicide
-culture - collectivism and duty based moral code
-high cost of education

Monday - Finish up discussion from last Friday - I have a great you-tube video to start today's discussion.  Then we will look at suicide

Tuesday  - begin Unit 3, Love and Intimate Relationships

Wednesday - Computer time to work on ISU literature review.....due one week today

Thursday - Test Unit 2...details to follow....watch for a post

Friday - Continue with Unit 3

PAF 20 October 22-26

This week we are focusing on fitness re-testing.  Let's look at how far we have come since the first week of school.  We will try to do the 12 minute run tomorrow (Monday) as the weather should still be good.  With rain in the forecast for the rest of the week we will be inside.

Monday - start fitness re-testing...12 minute run if not raining, then move inside for fitness tests in the fitness room

Tuesday or Wednesday - I hope to have the small gym for the fitness test there

There will be one nutrition day (either Tuesday or Wednesday)

Thursday will be a workout day when I am away at WOSSA Cross Country

Friday - Back to the Y...remember your indoor shoes.  We will meet in the front foyer and then walk over

Tuesday - Bend it Like Beckham

Wednesday - finish movie and begin movie review: as always first paragraph is a summary of the movie and the second and subsequent paragraphs should focus on the differences between Eastern and Western culture...compare and contrast Jess and Jules and discuss the Eastern Duty Based moral code vs Western individualistic culture.

Thursday - work period for ISU, USE YOUR TIME WISELY

Friday - Culture discussion, youth suicide and high cost of education

You need to know the muscles of the body, protein, carbs and fats and the info from the first nutrition video you watched last week.  All the notes are in your book

THere are 13 multiple choice, 6 marks for muscles and 6 marks for commenting on nutritional habits.

HHS 4M Oct 1-5

Here is a tentative look at the week

Monday - 2 people to write last Thursday's test.  Remember your family sculptures are due today.  Also I still need a fair few movie reviews of Pleasantville that are now 2 weeks past due.  We will discuss hyper parents and coddled kids

Tuesday - Bring your questions - today we Skype in two University students - what is it really like to move away from home......and yes they are two of my favourite University students because they happen to be mine.  We also will discuss the IS introduction.  I have posted a sample of an introduction on the HHS tab.

Wednesday - Life course theories....there are a few
Thursday - continued from yesterday.....
Friday - Awards assembly - influences of school and occupation in forming an identity

Personal Fitness Oct 1-5

Monday - Welcome back after the weekend - I hope you were active!  Today we will complete a cardio exercise together - you pick the level that is appropriate for you, we have one to write the test from 2 weeks ago and 5still to present their fitness demo

Tuesday - THE STAIRS!!! it is really October :)  today is 3 times!  Then you will each work on your individualized fitness plan.

Wednesday - no need to change - Today is Nutrition Day.  You will also have a change to hear about the Specialist High Skills major is Health and Wellness

Thursday - (I am away at Cross country) you will watch the second nutrition video - worksheets are in your book

Friday - REally quick nutrition and muscles quiz.....then a chance to workout with your own fitness plan

Monday - set SMART goals, finish up fitness demos/presentation, begin work on fitness plan

Tuesday - a few of those away still need to present their fitness demonstration, if necessary finish up fitness plan...be very specific with the exercises you plan to include, begin working out according to the plan

Wednesday - Trip to the Y...bring gym clothes and indoor shoes.  There are still a few who need to bring their $20.  If you have a membership please bring your card

Thursday - Nutrition Day...you do not need to change today

Friday - PD DAy....Be sure to be active today :)

Application - 12 marks....one longer answer question

Thinking - 13 marks - one question is a quote (5 marks) agree or disagree with the quote but be prepared to support you answer.
-longer answer question worth 8 marks

Communication- shorter answer question - 5 marks, and vocabulary (10 marks)  Choose 5 vocabulary words from the list and write a concise explanation

Remember your family sculpture is due on Monday and your IS introduction is now due on Wednesday

PAF 20

For the past two weeks we have learned the components of fitness and participated in fitness testing.  We will continue  with testing tomorrow and then begin to design our personal fitness plans early next week

During the week of September we have been working on the definitions of a family and we watched the Tiggr Movie.  remember your movie reviews are due on Friday Sept 14.  Next week we will continue with theories and theoretical perspectives and you will have a a family sculpture assignment as well as another movie review to do after we watch the movie Pleasantville
